Happy Monday Team. We hope you are enjoying the international break as much as we are. In today’s edition we will give you a look at the newest hydration technology as well as some updates that are sure to keep you sweating. Let’s get into it!
OVERWORKED AND UNDERAPPRECIATED
Kevin De Bruyne's recent comments on the relentless soccer schedule have struck a chord with players and fans alike. The Manchester City maestro highlighted the lack of rest between competitions, noting that players face an average of 80 matches per season. With UEFA and FIFA prioritizing profits over player welfare, De Bruyne's concerns are unlikely to be addressed anytime soon.
The impact of this grueling schedule is evident in the rising number of overuse injuries plaguing top players. Over the past decade, the average number of matches per season has increased from 50-60 to a staggering 70-80, putting immense strain on athletes' bodies. Barcelona’s Gavi and Pedri are just two examples of stars who have suffered lengthy absences due to overuse injuries.
As things stand, the Club World Cup final coming up in the summer and the 2024/25 Premier League opener will provide a mere 3-week break for players. With little time to rest and recover, players will be forced to push their bodies to the limit once again, risking further injury and burnout.
Squad rotation and increased squad sizes are key in situations like this and could provide possible solutions. Maybe Chelsea are onto something after all.
GATORADE SWEAT TECH
Gatorade has launched an innovative hydration solution for athletes: the Gx Sweat Patch. Priced at $25 for a pack of two, these single-use patches are designed to provide valuable insights into your hydration needs by monitoring sweat rate, fluid loss, and sodium loss during workouts.
The patch is applied to the inside of your left forearm before engaging in exercise lasting at least 30 minutes. It works best in temperatures between 47°F and 95°F, making it suitable for various training environments.
As you sweat, the patch collects fluid through a microfluidic system, which then changes color based on the concentration of sodium in your sweat. After your workout, you can scan the patch using the Gx App to generate a personalized sweat profile.
The app not only analyzes your sweat data but also provides tailored recommendations on hydration and nutrition for future workouts. It takes into account factors such as workout duration and intensity, helping athletes optimize their performance.
Unlike traditional sweat testing methods that often require laboratory settings, the Gx Sweat Patch allows athletes to easily assess their hydration needs in real-world conditions.
It won’t be long until we see these on football fields near you. We can’t wait to get our hands on some to try them out to give you a full review.
RONDO
⚡️One Last Go Around. Jürgen Klopp made a nostalgic return to Borussia Dortmund recently, taking charge of Team Kuba for a testimonial match honoring former players Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski. Although Klopp has expressed no immediate plans to return to full-time coaching after leaving Liverpool, he relished the opportunity to step back onto the touchline, stating that it felt "like coming home." The match ended in a thrilling 5-4 victory for his team, showcasing the enduring bond between Klopp and the Dortmund faithful.
😔 Farewell My Friend. Lionel Messi was visibly emotional as he bid farewell to his close friend and former teammate Luis Suarez following Uruguay's final World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, where Suarez announced his retirement from international football. In a heartfelt video tribute, Messi praised Suarez's dedication to the national team, acknowledging the difficulty of his decision and emphasizing the legacy he leaves behind. Watching the message on the big screen at Centenario Stadium, Suarez was brought to tears, reflecting the deep bond forged during their years together at Barcelona.
