Today, we sit down with Elischa Edouard, a content creator best known for his skits with BR Football, 5-a-side podcast and who has also worked with Adidas and Genius. We spoke to him about his journey as a creator and found out his best advice for young creators as well as his thoughts on football culture in the Concacaf region.

Let’s get into it!

HOW DO I BECOME A FOOTBALL CREATOR?

“Just start! You know, I think so many people might look at something like Hashtag United, or they might look at me doing the videos with BR football, and so many people see the end result. They forget that we have to take the stairs. There's a process behind it.”

Elischa explained that as you create, you develop a love and a feel for your work and begin to understand what other people find valuable. Then it becomes easier to create content that more and more people want to see.

HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH GREAT IDEAS FOR YOUR VIDEOS?

”I'm hitting record and then editing whatever I think is the best part.”

Elischa mentioned he takes an action-oriented approach to creatin his videos. In the fast-paced football space, waiting for the perfect idea to come can result in you missing out on opportunities to engage with what is happening right now.

“Innovation is work that's something I had to learn. There is no random light bulb that pops into anybody's head. It's always a process; it's work, and so I think that the first thing for anyone starting is to just do the work, and the research, be prepared as much as possible, and go into it saying you're okay with failing.”

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH SETBACKS AND ONLINE CRITICISM?

Elischa made it clear that having a clear “why” is the only way to push through adversity.

”What's the motivation? What's the purpose? Because at some point you're gonna say F this I don't want to do this no more. Everybody goes through it at some point you're gonna be like man, I'm tired, these Real Madrid fans are pissing me off, I don't want to do this no more! If you didn't start with a strong and healthy “why” to that you can always go back to it's gonna be easy to quit.”

CAN CONCACAF BECOME A POWERHOUSE FOOTBALL REGION?

“From the talent that I've seen from the creativity that I've seen from the work ethic that I've seen from Haitian people from living there, I just know that there are so many gems out there all over.

There are people (in Concacaf) who are extremely smart and can be great coaches, trainers, medics, content creators, marketers, and great business people in this sport. So I feel like in our region, there are so many amazing people who can add so much value not just as players but in all aspects of the game. There's only one thing that they're lacking, and it is the resources and opportunities. That's the thing that I hope people who are not from our spaces will try to invest in.”

TO SUM IT ALL UP

Steps to Effective Content Creation

  1. Identify Your Role: Decide if you want to be a creator, coach, or fan documenting your experiences.

  2. Start Creating: Begin producing content without waiting for perfection. The first step is often the hardest.

  3. Research: Understand the platforms and tools available for content creation. This foundational knowledge is crucial.

  4. Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve with your content. Specific goals make it easier to map out steps to success.

  5. Accept and Learn from Failure: View failures as opportunities to learn and improve your content.

Tips for Growth

  • Keep Practicing: The more you create, the more comfortable you will become in front of the camera and with the editing process.

  • Be Open to Change: As you create, you may discover new interests or skills. Adapt your content to reflect these changes.

  • Find Inspiration: Look at other creators for inspiration, but focus on developing your unique style.
