PEP EXTENDS HIS REIGN
In a move that will delight Manchester City fans, Pep Guardiola has extended his contract with the club until 2026. The Spaniard, who has been at the helm since 2016, has led City to numerous domestic and European trophies, including a historic treble in 2023.
Guardiola's decision to stay at City came swiftly, with the contract being finalised within just two hours. "I felt I should stay here," he said. "For obvious reasons, for the results and because we've known each other for a long time."
The manager's extension is a significant boost for City as they look to maintain their dominance in English football and continue to compete at the highest level in Europe. Guardiola's tactical acumen, relentless pursuit of perfection, and ability to get the best out of his players have made him one of the most successful managers of all time.
With Guardiola at the helm, Manchester City fans can look forward to more exciting seasons to come.
NYCFC, THE AMERICAN MCFC?
New York City FC has announced a major milestone in its history: the naming of its new soccer-specific stadium. The state-of-the-art facility, set to open in 2027, will be known as Etihad Park.
This 20-year naming rights partnership with Etihad Airways solidifies the airline's commitment to the club and the sport of soccer in New York City. The new stadium, located in Willets Point, will have a capacity of 25,000 and is designed to be a world-class venue for both football matches and other events.
The stadium is part of a larger redevelopment project that will include housing, schools, and parks. NYCFC aims to create a vibrant, sustainable community centred around the stadium.
This is a significant step for NYCFC as they strive to establish themselves as a major force in American soccer. With a dedicated stadium, the club will have greater control over its matchday experience and revenue streams.
UEFA ORDERS KOSOVO TO FORFEIT MATCH AFTER WALK OFF
Kosovo has been forced to forfeit their Nations League match against Romania after players walked off the pitch due to pro-Serbia chants. The match, which ended 0-0, has been awarded a 3-0 win to Romania.
As punishment for the incident, Romania will play their first 2026 World Cup qualifier behind closed doors. However, the forfeited match didn't impact the final standings in their Nations League group.
This decision by UEFA has significant implications for the upcoming World Cup qualifying process in Europe.
